The Cagayan Economic Zone Authority (CEZA), in partnership with the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Santa Ana, paid tribute to the unsung heroes of tourism during the celebration of National Tour Guides’ Day on June 30, 2025, held at Buwacag Eco-Tourism Site in Sta. Clara, Santa Ana, Cagayan. The event gathered 53 local tour guides from CEZA-supported community-based organizations: the Palaui Environmental Protectors Association (PEPA), Buwacag Eco-Tourism Association (BETA), and Pananacpan Eco-Tourism Association (PETA), in a meaningful day of recognition, reflection, and celebration.
The program highlighted the vital role of local guides in preserving heritage and enhancing the visitor experience in the Cagayan Freeport’s ecotourism destinations. Certificates of Recognition were given to outstanding individuals through awards such as Longest-Serving Guide, Oldest-Serving Guide, and Best Tour Guide in each tourism site.
Ms. Ma. Jesusa B. Zingapan, CEZA’s Chief Tourism Operations Officer, delivered an inspirational message. She reminded the guides that they are not just storytellers; they are the destination itself. Her words set the tone for the entire celebration, which reaffirmed CEZA and LGU Santa Ana’s shared commitment to empowering the people behind tourism: the passionate and dedicated frontliners who connect visitors to the rich culture and natural beauty of Santa Ana.
To promote holistic well-being, the event included a mental health session led by Mr. Jan Vincent Timosa of the Santa Ana Mental Health Wellness and Social Support Office. Titled “Pause and Breathe: Strengthening Mental Resilience in Tourism,” the session was followed by a reflective activity called “Pause and Reflect,” where the guides were invited to share their thoughts on the theme: “I am grateful. I am sorry. I commit.” It became a safe space for stories, emotions, and a reaffirmation of purpose.
The day concluded with games and bonding activities that brought out the cheerful spirit and strong sense of community among the guides. These moments reflected not only their teamwork but also their passion and dedication to the craft of guiding.
