The Cagayan Economic Zone Authority (CEZA) is making bold strides to transform the Cagayan Freeport into a premier investment and logistics hub in Northern Luzon, unveiling significant progress on four key infrastructure projects. The updates were presented during CEZA’s Board Meeting on June 4, 2025.
Speaking on behalf of CEZA Administrator and Chief Executive Officer Sec. Katrina Ponce Enrile, Enterprise Services Officer IV and Chief of Staff Ms. Ray-Ann Quereza emphasized that these projects are designed to enhance the Freeport’s capability to attract investors and support its long-term development goals.
High-Tech Telecommunications Hub Underway
One of the flagship projects is the construction of a state-of-the-art, three-storey CEZA Data Center, now 13.2% complete as of May 2025. This cutting-edge facility aims to revolutionize the region’s telecommunications infrastructure, enabling faster, more reliable data processing that will benefit public services, healthcare systems, education platforms, and CEZA-registered enterprises.
Port Irene Expansion to Boost Trade and Resilience
Meanwhile, CEZA is also ramping up its efforts to modernize Port Irene, one of the region’s most vital gateways to trade. The port infrastructure upgrade includes:
These improvements are designed to expand cargo-handling capacity, improve logistics, and safeguard port operations from storm surges and marine hazards which are considered a critical concern during the rainy season.
Driving Growth for the Region
CEZA asserts that once completed, these infrastructure projects will supercharge economic activity, improve investor confidence, and create more job opportunities for locals. They also mark CEZA’s commitment to delivering on its mandate to make the Cagayan Freeport a powerful engine for inclusive regional development.
